Approach

I’m Shawn — a web developer helping small businesses build their online presence through clean, simple, and effective websites. I focus on creating sites that are easy to use, easy to manage, and built with purpose.

Right now, I’m focused on helping local brands get online and grow. As I learn more about WordPress, web security, and cybersecurity, I’m committed to growing my skills while delivering value with every project.

I believe websites should work for people — not the other way around. Whether it’s a simple landing page or a growing business site, I design with clarity, usability, and trust in mind.

Every website I build is part of my journey — and I take pride in helping others grow while I grow too.

A clean, high-converting one page website designed to empower local fitness clients to take action.

MaxFit is a mobile personal training service for busy adults. This one-page site was designed to build trust, highlight services, and drive leads with a clean, modern layout.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to design and develop a clean, modern, and high-converting one-page website that would effectively position MaxFit Personal Training as a trusted local fitness brand. The client needed a website that not only looked professional but also clearly guided visitors toward taking action, whether booking a free consultation or reaching out for more information.

With a limited amount of initial content available, it was essential to structure the page in a way that felt complete, engaging, and visually dynamic without overwhelming the user.

In addition to building the site, I also took the lead in establishing the brand’s visual identity—including logo concept, color palette, typography, and image style—ensuring that every element worked together to communicate energy, trust, and approachability. A strong focus was placed on creating a seamless user experience across desktop and mobile devices, maintaining clarity and accessibility at all times.

This project highlights my ability to solve real-world business needs through strategic design, brand development, and efficient web practices, helping small businesses build a credible, professional presence online.

Our approach began with a deep-dive UX audit, followed by wireframes and high-fidelity UI designs focused on improving user journeys. We prioritized intuitive navigation, strong calls-to-action, and performance optimization to ensure a fast and seamless experience.

Using WordPress and Elementor, we built a fully responsive, accessible, and scalable website. Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) were used extensively to ensure easy content updates by the EcoNest team without touching code. The blog was restructured to improve SEO performance, and we integrated a lead magnet system to boost newsletter signups.

In addition to visual upgrades, performance was significantly improved through image optimization, caching, and lazy loading. The final site achieved a 97 PageSpeed score and passed all Core Web Vitals on launch.

The new site has not only improved customer perception of the brand but also driven measurable growth in both newsletter signups and e-commerce sales.

A vibrant, content-first travel blog demo showcasing storytelling, visual appeal, and mobile-friendly design.

Travel Spark is a demo blog built during a WordPress and Elementor Udemy course. It showcases my ability to apply responsive design, customize layouts, and structure content effectively—highlighting my growing skills in frontend development and web design.

Challenge

This project was created as part of a guided Udemy course focused on WordPress and Elementor. The goal was to build a modern, content-first travel blog that could serve as a model for future client projects or personal branding.

While the course provided a clear structure and direction, I took initiative in customizing the design elements and branding to reflect my own style and creativity. Though no wireframes were created in this particular course, I have previous UX/UI training where I learned foundational principles of user-centered design, layout planning, and wireframing, which informed my design choices throughout this project.

The blog structure was created using standard WordPress posts (not ACF), with Elementor templates handling the layout. This gave me hands-on experience with how blog content is managed and styled in a real-world environment using a visual builder.

The main challenge was to take the course framework and personalize the design, layout, and structure in a way that reflected my own evolving design instincts and branding choices. The project required balancing clean UI with an immersive reader experience, showcasing how travel stories and blog posts can be delivered in an engaging, mobile-first format.

This case study represents my ability to learn through hands-on practice, follow professional design standards, and adapt course-based knowledge into real-world web design skills.
